SUMPRODUCT Tutorial

SUMPRODUCT can be used in many different ways, making it one of the most versatile formulas in Excel. So much so that it can nearly replace SUMIF(s) and COUNTIF(s) in all instances. This tutorial will only go over the explanation of how it can be used to replace SUMIF(s) and COUNTIF(s) - which is how it is widely used.

The formula is easy to put together, it is simply composed of filters that you’d like to use. This is one of the formulas that is easier to learn visually, therefore, please see the examples to the left.

The formula is broken down in the blue shaded box.

There is only one difference in the SUMPRODUCT formula if you want to SUM the range or COUNT the range.

If you wan to SUM the range, simply enter the range you’d like to SUM at the end of the formula. If you want to COUNT the range… you don’t have to enter anything.
